The Teaching of Writing Across the Curriculum in School Years 4-6 in Sweden

This study explored disciplinary writing in grades 4-6 and the potential of to learn learning write across curriculum prepare pupils for their future writing. Using Ivanič’s discourses as an analytical framework, observation protocols from 104 observers 374 lessons 76 Swedish schools were analyzed exploring school different subjects. Analysis data reveals that most teachers required with a single focus on reinforcing learning, enacting three seven writing: thinking discourse, skills social practices discourse. Much less frequently overall but commonly language lessons, dual focus, developing proficiency while learning. In these cases, all enacted. The results suggest further develop pupils’ curriculum.
